Tresor Competition takes the victory in Hockenheim at Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup

September 4, 2023

04.09.2023 - Tresor Competition secured a victory in race one, coupled with three podium finishes and two pole positions after the Hockenheim weekend, which was the third round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup.

The Italian team demonstrated great determination, delivering a high-level performance that allowed all three crews to leave the German track in contention for both driver and team championships, as well as in the Silver and Bronze class standings, with races still to come in Valencia and Zandvoort.

The team fielded three Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II cars at the Hockenheimring: the #40 car driven by Mattia Drudi (ITA) and Ricardo Feller (CH) under the Tresor Orange1 banner in the Pro class, #99 in the Silver Cup with Alex Aka (GER) and Lorenzo Patrese (ITA) in the San Lorenzo livery, and #66 in the Bronze Cup featuring the IWS colours and entrusted to Andrey Mukovoz and Dennis Marschall (GER).

Right from the start, the pace of the cars was impressive despite challenging weather conditions during Friday's free practice and pre-qualifying sessions. In Q1, Feller secured a front-row position with the second-best time overall (1'37.754s), while Marschall put on a strong performance, taking fourth place overall and pole position among the Bronze drivers with a time of 1'37.856s. Patrese, driving the #99 car, finished third in the Silver Cup with a best lap of 1'38.780s.

Race one was particularly thrilling for Tresor Competition. The top moment came during the pit stop window when Feller, coming out of the Südkurve, overtook Pepper on the outside taking the lead with a spectacular manoeuvre. In the second stint, Drudi was equally impressive. After falling behind Baert following the pit stops, Drudi returned to the front with a fantastic overtaking move in turn 7, securing the team's second win of the season.

The day was further enhanced by the victory in the Bronze Cup, achieved by Marschall and Mukovoz, who drove masterfully from the second row, earning valuable points for their championship campaign.

Unfortunately, the race for the #99 car was compromised just minutes from the end, despite impressive performances from both drivers. While fighting for a Silver Cup podium, Aka was forced to retire due to damage to the right rear suspension after a contact at the Spitzkehre.

In Sunday morning's Q2 session, Tresor Competition continued their momentum. Drudi, after a perfect lap, secured pole position for #40 with a time of 1'37.195s. In the Silver Cup, Aka finished fifth in class with a time of 1'38.530s, while Mukovoz posted a 1'39.678s, securing the eighth position among the Bronze drivers.

In race two, an early safety car period shuffled the order, and a subsequent penalty for a jump start complicated the performance of the #40 lineup. However, both Drudi and Feller continued to push and ultimately finished in fourth place, narrowly missing the podium.

Patrese and Aka secured redemption, setting an impressive pace in their race and climbing to the lead in their category, claiming victory and crucial points to remain in the championship hunt.

Marschall and Mukovoz also stepped onto the podium in the #66 challenger, making a remarkable recovery from eighth to third place in the Bronze category and earning their second consecutive podium of the weekend.

Ferdinando Geri (Team Principal):
“The victory in race one has given us our pride and satisfaction back, and all the other podium results have enhanced the effort of this weekend. We worked well as a team on setup, race pace and qualifying. All the drivers showed great determination, and the goal was to remain in contention for both driver and team championships, which we can say we have definitely achieved. The championship is very demanding, and even in this event, it was clear that it takes very little to compromise a result. However, overall, we can say we are satisfied and look ahead to the next two rounds with confidence”.

Tresor Competition will be back on track in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup next September 16-17 in Valencia.
