Tresor Competition and Attempto Racing GmbH at the Kyalami 9 Hours.

February 17, 2023

17.02.2023 - Tresor Competition and Attempto Racing GmbH strengthen their partnership in view of the upcoming participation in the Kyalami 9 Hours, race scheduled for February 23-25 as the second round of the 2023 Intercontinental GT Challenge on the famous South African racetrack.

Two PRO teams will be driving as many Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo cars: Mattia Drudi (ITA), Ricardo Feller 8CH) and Patric Niederhauser (CH) will alternate on the #66 car, while car #99 will be entrusted to Alex Aka (GER), Dennis Marschall (GER) and Markus Winkelhock (GER).

Drudi, Feller, Aka and Marschall were already part of the Tresor Competition and Attempto Racing GmbH line-up, contributing to the important debut of this collaboration last December during the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi.

Patric Niederhauser has distinguished himself in the Intercontinental GT Challenge with second place in 2021 and has great experience with the Audi brand, with which he has been racing since 2019. In his career with the Ingolstadt-based automaker, he won the ADAC GT Masters in 2019 and finished second in the Pro-Am category at the Total 24 Hours of Nürburgring in 2020.

Markus Winkelhock is one of the most experienced GT drivers in activity. His career is full of successes. He finished second in the 2021 Intercontinental GT Challenge with Niederhauser, but also won the series in 2017. Four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring (2017-2014-2012-2010), he was the FIA GT1 champion in 2012. In 2015, he won the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hours and finished second in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup (2017), the Motul 12 Hours of Sepang (2015 and 2016), the Suzuka 12 Hours (2018) and the Gulf 12 Hours (2018).

The highly anticipated event will once again feature challenges among the GT3 cars on the iconic Kyalami circuit, which has hosted twenty editions of the South African Formula 1 Grand Prix, the last of which was back in 1993. Inaugurated in 1961, the racetrack has undergone numerous modifications that have brought it to measure 4,552 meters with a very technical design. The track is the most driven on the calendar and features a succession of 16 corners with short driven stretches requiring a perfect balance. Suitable overtaking spots are the first braking at Crowthorne, the entrance to the Leeukop hairpin, and the Ingwe curve that brings drivers back to the main straight.

The program of the weekend will start on Thursday, February 23, with optional test sessions at 10:25 and 15:44, while the night free practice will take place at 18:40. Pre-qualifying will open Friday, February 24  at 10:30, while the drivers will compete in three qualifying sessions to decide the starting grid starting from 15:00. The race will start on Saturday, February 25, at 13:00 and will end at 22:00 local time (GMT +2).

Ferdinando Geri (Team Principal):

"This is a charming and very challenging race. I am personally bound to Kyalami even if it is a new track for us and, despite some of the drivers having already raced on this track, we will need to work carefully to identify the best setup, since balance will be crucial here. A high-level list of entries is expected, so it will be a spectacular challenge and we will try to get every detail right to allow our crews to express their full potential and play a leading role on the track."
