Pole position and podium: an historic weekend for Tresor by Car Collection in Magny-Cours

May 15, 2022
15.05.2022 - Tresor by CarCollection heads back home from Magny-Cours (FRA) very satisfied after claiming the first pole position and podium of its history in the second round valid for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup 2022.The Italian team, after the positive debut in the Sprint Cup in Brands Hatch, fielded again the two Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo #11 and #12 driven respectively by Simon Gachet (FRA)-Christopher Haase (GER) and Mattia Drudi (ITA)-Luca Ghiotto (ITA).The pairings lined up by Tresor by CarCollection confirmed that they have what it takes to aim for the top of the classification. At the end of Q1 that defined the starting grid of race one, Gachet posted the fastest lap in 1’32.322s, which earned him the first pole position of the season and rewarded the whole team with great satisfaction. Drudi’s qualifying was more troubled and a 1’37.050s allowed him to qualify the #12 car in P13.Race one has been very exciting for Tresor by CarCollection. Gachet got a good getaway and kept the lead building a good margin. The timing for the pit stop did not pay off as it should have and Haase lost contact with the leaders in the second part of the race despite showing again his value on the track. The German driver crossed the finish line with a positive P3, which was the first podium in the history of the team.Drudi and Ghiotto completed a great comeback in the #12 car. They confirmed that grit and talent always pay dividends and they managed to recover eight places thanks to some spectacular overtaking moves before crossing the finish line in P5.Sunday has been more challenging for Tresor by CarCollection. In Q2 the drivers could not put together their best lap with Haase qualifying 12th and Ghiotto 17th.Despite starting lower down the field, both cars started very well and put in an exciting comeback race. Ghiotto handed the #12 car over to Drudi, who kept recovering positions and crossed the finish line after a 9 place comeback. Drudi and Ghiotto climbed up seventeen positions in one weekend.Haase was doing the same in the #11 car, but a technical problem on lap 14 forced him to early retirement.Tresor by CarCollection will get back on the track next June 3-5 for the much-awaited 1000km of the Paul Ricard (FRA), which is valid for the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup 2022.
Ferdinando Geri (Team Principal):
“We are very happy and it could not be different as we claimed our first pole position and the first podium. The whole team did a great job to allow us to be this competitive in such a short time and the drivers converted all our grit into sheer performance on the track. We still have to work on some details to reduce the gap to the rivals, today we missed something to get another very good result, but we are on the right direction to score further important results during the season”.
